Paul has over 30 years of professional experience in applied social science research, strategic and institutional planning, and project management. As the founder of CumulusMedical, Paul brings considerable expertise in forecasting, policy analysis, and the evaluation of innovative technology.  He has worked in a variety of positions at leading colleges and universities, including Stanford University, the University of California (Office of the President), and the University of Northern Iowa.  Paul has been a Senior Policy Analyst at SRI International and a Senior Research Assistant at the Educational Testing Service.  Most recently, Paul was a Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant for the National Science Foundation for a study in the US Virgin Islands and an Evaluator for a National Institutes of Health program at the University of the Virgin Islands.  Paul holds a Ph.D. in Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University and an AB degree in Psychology from Princeton University.

Paul has over 22 years of senior executive experience, including management of national sales and marketing programs, negotiating funding agreements and partnerships, and overseeing network development in the telecommunications industry.  Paul initiated and managed the Business Consulting Group of Sesame, Inc., which provided expertise in the areas of market development, cost control, and strategic business management for emerging Internet companies.  He was Vice President of National Accounts for NewEdge Networks (now EarthLink), heading the team that marketed to the 150 largest Data Carriers in the US and the Fortune 100 companies.  Previously, Paul was a SVP and Managing Director at GST Telecommunications, where he led the largest business unit of the company and developed programs to increase revenues to over $300 million. Paul also has held management positions in sales and operations at Brooks Fiber Pacific, Phoenix Communications and GE Capital/Access America.

Jim brings over 30 years of senior management experience to CumulusMedical.  He has a broad background in business analysis and corporate finance, with an emphasis on developing programs to meet cash flow objectives.  Over the past three years Jim has managed a private Site Management Organization involved in clinical trials research, with a focus on major studies comparing the effectiveness of competing statins.  Previously he served as CFO of Sesame, Inc. a private corporation providing application services for eCommerce to companies conducting business over the Internet.  His background includes serving as Regional Vice President for GST Telecommunications, where he designed and managed the operations of a high-capacity fiberoptic network throughout California.  Jim also served in various management positions during his ten years with the Exxon Corporation, where he became Treasurer/Finance and Planning Manager for Esso Asia Services in Singapore.  Jim holds an MBA in Finance and Manufacturing Control from Stanford University, a BS in Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology, and a Certificate in Clinical Trials Administration from the University of California, San Diego.
